Pull Through Side Braid

This has been my go to hair style lately as it’s relatively fast and always brings forth lots of compliments when I wear it. When I posted my 28 week update photo on Insta I had sooo many people react to this simple braid and even DM me so I decided, why not just write up a quick tutorial. I didn’t even think to ask do you guys prefer a video or photo collage?? So a photo collage is what I did for the time being but if just one person says please make a video of future tutorials I will give it a go!

Few Things to Note/ My Tips & Tricks:
  1. I have very thin hair, especially after babies, so I do like to add some extensions to the front of my head to help fill in gaps and add thickness.
  2. Ok so here is my HAIR SECRET: Call me crazy but I once read an article about how celebrities get that perfect hairline without looking like they have spots of their scalp showing through hairstyles and their secret was actually a hair shadow such as this one HERE. It’s basically a ‘root touch up’ that is a glorified eyeshadow for your hair! AND because I’m cheap lol, I just use my good old eyeshadow that I use to fill in my brows, with a stiffer eyeshadow brush and fill in the sparse parts of my scalp that show if I do any up-do hairstyle.
  3. I don’t really like my ears showing so I make sure to leave a small section over both ears down to help cover them. This is completely personal preference.
What You Will Need:

Bobby Pins, Elastics and an optional Topsy Tail.

*A Topsy Tail is amazing at tucking in the strands of hair that you wrap around ponytails if you don’t wanna use a bobby pin 😉

Pull Through Side Braid, Hair Tutorial

Step 1: Make one small ponytail at the top of your head and wrap a small section of hair around the clear elastic. Secure with a bobby pin.

Step 2: Make another small ponytail right behind the first one. (I don’t typically continue to wrap the hair around all of the elastic, I just do so for the first one as I don’t like seeing it stick out when the hair style first starts).

Step 3: Separate the second small ponytail into two sections and bring the first ponytail back in between those two sections. Secure the split sections to the other side of your head with a hair clip.

Step 4: Continue this same method down till you reach your neck and all hair is now gathered into the last ponytail. Begin pulling on the sections that you have created to give it that “bubble look”

Step 5 & 6: Now that your hair should be at the base of your neck and in one ponytail, separate the hair into three strands like your about to braid them but instead bring the two sections on the side back and secure with an elastic leaving out the middle piece. Your going to repeat the same technique all the way down to the bottom of your hair.

Step 7 & 8: Once you reach the end of your hair secure the last to ponytailed strands together. Now begin pulling the strand apart again to make them as big as you want them. Try not to pull to much that any layered sections begin to stick out. But if they do just pin them back into the braid with a bobby pin.

AND THERE YOU HAVE IT!

A quick and easy hairstyle that will take you all of 10-15 min once you get the hang of it. The only downside to this hairstyle would be taking each little individual elastic out, so my trick is to take a tiny scissors and slightly pull on each one to cut them when I’m ready to take it out.

Here is what the opposite side looks like in case your curious, I haven’t filled in my hair yet here.
And here is the eyeshadow and brush I use.
By no means am I a pro at hair tutorials so I hope it’s easy enough to understand 😛

XOXO
