A New Love With Film Photography

I came across an old school film photo after reading another blogger talk about how she was loving her new film camera she came across and was immediately taken back to the days of taking photos with my momma and going to have them developed and sitting their together going through every picture. So naturally I wanted one again and searched on OfferUp finding an old Canon A-1 for only $100 and two lenses included! (SCORE)

After the initial learning process I was loving it! If you shoot with a standard DSLR and understand the main components of Aperture, Shutter Speed, and ISO it’s pretty easy to catch onto. This camera was the first to ever have an electronically controlled programmed auto exposure mode. You can pick the shutter speed and f-stop manually which is a great option since it is a 35mm film camera and comes with a 50mm f/1.8 lens

The neat thing about film photography as well is that you can pick from various film rolls to get different effects. These photos were shoot with the Kodak 400 TMAX Professional, which is a black and white film. I love the idea of old time black and white photos so I wanted to try it out. For the most part I really loved how the photos came out but I need to tweek some of my functions for next time as I seemed to be overexposing a few too many of my shots. It took about two weeks to get the photos back from Walgreens and I also have another roll that is color film that has yet to come back so I wouldn’t recommend taking it there. I found darkroom.com for next time which is a professional film developing company. Not only do they develop the film for you for as low as $11, they process your film, scan your negatives, AND upload your images for immediate download or sharing on Facebook, Instagram etc. They then also mail your negatives and CD to you with your digital images. I mean how COOL is that!?

These shoots were captured in MN during Siena’s bday party just so you can get an idea of the truly artistic way film photos turn out if it’s something your looking into!
