Whats In My Hospital Bag

I really like browsing through Pinterest when it’s about time to give birth and seeing what other mamas had packed in their hospital bags. So, I decided I would round out what’s in mine, nothing fancy, and show you what I’m packing when we head to the hospital. Since this is my third kid, I’ll be leaving my whole closet at home this time and only packing the necessities that I know I will need…LOL. Rounding out here what’s in not only the baby’s bag, but mine as well. Everything is simple, everything is AFFORDABLE and that’s how it should be after giving birth.

I’m also rounding out some of the NOT SO glamorous products you just MIGHT want to invest in and have ready that I don’t see many mothers talk about but I wish WOULD HAVE known more about prior to my first birth.

  1. Margaux and May Swaddles – These swaddles are my favorite for the designs. They are soft and breathable. Aden + Anais also have their “super soft” swaddles that I love as well but the feather designs on these just make them all the more appealing. Sadly, I lost the blue feathered one which was my favorite of the set but I will be bringing the other with me to swaddle her up tight in the hospital 🙂
  2. Philips Avent Pacifiers – The girls really took to these the best along with the MAM pacifiers. But I like getting them used to these right off the bat because they are not as hard to loose 😛
  3. Medela Contact Nipple Shields – These where a life savor for me when I first started breastfeeding my first baby and I don’t think I could have been able to push through the pain if it weren’t for them in the very beginning. No one tells you just how painful it is after the first few days you start to breastfeed! So not only do these help give your nipples a little barrier, they can also help woman who have inverted nipples (which luckily I don’t LOL) but it can really help those who do be able to breastfeed! This one comes with a carrying case which I do recommend because you can lose them so easily since they are clear.
  4. Motherlove Diaper Balm – I have the old formula that was the Motherlove Diaper Balm and Thrush which was a miracle worker! But this is just the same formula without the word Thrush on it I believe. My favorite diaper cream for babies.
  5. Medela Tender Care Hydrogel – Ok I use these for a good two weeks after birth to help soothe discomfort from breastfeeding as your body adjusts. Your gonna go through a few packs if you like them as much as me but they do last a couple of nursing sessions as long as you take care of them. They provide a cooling relief right after nursing and help shield your nipples from rubbing against your bra which is sooo painful when your body adjusts to nursing.
  6. Water Wipes – These are my FAVORITE wipes. But they are a little on the pricey side compared to other baby wipes. Aside from that we love the Costco Kirkland Wipes the best.
  7. Gerber White Long Sleeve Onesies – These onesies are another favorite. I would forget about getting your baby a bunch of cute little spendy outfits right off the bat because they grow SOO FAST! My girls literally spent their first month in these because they are easy to clean and come with the built in hand cuffs which is a must for newborns so they don’t scratch themselves. The little mittens you can buy are cute and all but I lose those within a day. These are built right in!
  8. Huggies Preemie Diapers – Both my previous babies weighed around 6 pounds and the newborn sizes were a tad bit to big, the preemie size only lasts about two weeks before they grow outta them so only one or two packages of these will do the trick if your baby’s around 6 lbs or smaller.

  1. Maternity Zip Hoodie: Isabel Maternity for Target – I wore this jacket sooooo much this pregnancy which you can see on my Insta! It actually was really comfortable and I love jackets that have the thumb holes for some reason! Right now this jacket is on CLEARENCE for less than $8! So run!
  2. Gilligan & O Women’s Nursing Wirefree Seamless Bra -  I have a few Nursing bras but the wireless ones are my go-to’s and this one from Target is super comfy! So these are definitely my favorite.
  3. Maidenform Self Expressions Women’s High Waist Briefs – In a perfect world after having carried another human being around for nine months, your belly would magically go back to normal after birth. But it took it that long to grow that big so it’s been through some serious stretching! Shape wear like these or belly wraps will be your friend to keep you from feeling all lousy goosy 😛
  4. High Rise Wrap Leggings – these are under 20 bucks at Target and some stretchy leggings are the best way to go postpartum.
  5. Adidas – New baby, new shoes…what can I say…#treatyoself

  1. Motherlove Sitz Bath Soak – First off if your a first time mama a sitz bath may be unfamiliar for you. I had no clue what it was until my Nana brought me this stuff after I had my first daughter…bless her heart or I’d have never known. But pushing out a human being takes it’s toll on your body! And taking a couple of sitz bath helps relieve some of the discomfort and sourness that will develop…down there. Epsom Salt works just as well but just a couple sitz baths of this stuff helps heal tears, slow bleeding, reduce perineal swelling, and ease the discomfort of hemorrhoids that often develop after birth. There is also this SPRAY that helps as well.
  2. Seat Cushion – It doesn’t have to be anything fancy, but getting a seat cushion for the ride home or sitting around the house in general will help relieve some of the pressure when seated. The ring ones work really well and you can find seat cushions at just about any drug store.
  3. Stool Softener – One of the scariest things to do after giving birth is….yup….using the bathroom (covers eyes). You just pushed a human outta ya so you don’t want a hard stool to come out right after. Your doctor will probably start to give you some stool softeners right away in the hospital but it’s ok to continue for awhile to take them once your home to help ease anymore unnecessary pain down there.
  4. Sitz Bath – Ok, this is the actual sitz bath! You connect the bag to warm running water and attach the tube to the sitz bath in the toilet while sitting on it with either the Epsom Salt or Motherlove soak inside for about 15 minutes or so a couple times a day if you can. This works let me tell you!
  5. Cortizone – You can buy coritzone cream (there are multiple formulas just get one that works for you) or preparation H or any other brand (this is just the one I always used) but this you will apply everyday for about a week after birth to your bottom area to help with discomfort and healing. It’s not just for itch FYI.
  6. Tucks – Use these in conjunction with the cortisone cream. Just line them in your underwear every time you use the bathroom and they will help soothe the area during the day.

That about rounds it out. I’m also bringing for the baby my Snuggle Me Organic, Car Seat obviously..this is the ONE we went with, mama essentials such as makeup/hair/my toothbrush ?and of COURSE my camera(S). Cannot wait to share pictures and if Freddy cooperates a little VLOG! 😉

XOXO
