Triple Bunk Beds For Our Girls Shared Small Bedroom

For about two years I had been wanting to redo my girls’ shared small bedroom. Our three girls have shared one bedroom since we moved into our CA home and it has been quite the challenge to keep the space organized. The only thing we truly had for the room was a triple bunk bed that the girls had really wanted for their room and it made perfect sense for the smaller space.

Not really one to know what to do with small spaces, for this room I decided to work with a designer because, for the past two years, I had just been literally staring at the cluttered mess with no action, like a moth to a flame.

Working With Havenly

I chose The Havenly after seeing many of their ads pop up on my social channels and loving their renderings. And I was generally surprised at the outcome as it’s a fairly neat process to go through.

You begin by choosing a designer and then uploading pictures of the room along with inspirational photos and commenting on why you like certain elements of your inspo photos. The designer then comes back with a couple of mood board ideas for you to choose your favorite from.

These were the three idea boards I got back and as you can tell from the outcome, the “magical forest” (first) board was my top choice. Moody rooms speak to my soul 😻. I also told them that I had already purchased white triple bunk beds and that they needed to be a part of the room design.

After you make your selection you get to the “Concept Board” back which is basically a mood board of the space and how the furnishings all flow together. From here you can edit/revise any pieces that don’t quite work or you like. The great part is all products in the concept board are linked with the prices shown. Once everything is agreed upon you’ll receive the shopping list (along with similar substations in various price ranges) as well as the room layout.

After you accept and are happy with everything, they begin work on the 3D renders! Here are the renders after we completed all revisions:

The whole process takes about two weeks depending on how many revisions you’d like.

Getting the renders back really got me motivated to finally begin on my girls’ shared bedroom! Note: The designer also helped me with storage solutions as well not pictured.

My ONLY con of the whole process was the furniture recommendations can be fairly pricey, especially when you are on a tight budget. However, this is where you can always look at Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, Offer-Up, etc. for used or similar pieces as long as you are patient and willing to wait for everything to come together within your price range.

Finding My Own Inspiration

After I had the concept and design from the decorator, it unleashed some creativity that had been locked away and I began to twist the concept (mood) board with some other ideas I had in mind closer to my budget. This is what I came up with:

I decided to add in a wood tongue and groove ceiling, swap out the storage solutions with IKEA furniture found on FB Marketplace, and mix some patterns with a checkered rug and polka dot sheets.

The project that took the most time was the tongue and groove ceiling which I wanted to tie back to our slat wood ceiling in the living room, but it was a game changer for the room!

Mood boards are a great asset to use when designing a room because they allow you to quickly and easily visualize design ideas by creating a collage of images, materials, and colors. They are a great source of inspiration and reference!

We all loved how it turned out and the girls all had their hand in helping design and redo the room 🙂

After posting the process of redoing my girls shared small bedroom on TikTok and getting over 10 million views on the first video, I got A LOT of flack for having the girls share a room. But it was important to me that I teach them how to compromise, communicate, and resolve conflicts. Especially since they truly love being in the same room together right now, it was the perfect opportunity.
