I’m sure you’ve all heard of the benefits of swaddling your newborn babies. Even before coming home from the hospital you’ll probably be given a quick lesson from the nurses caring for your baby. It’s said to help babies sleep longer, to not startle themselves awake, and is claimed to help reduce the risk of SIDS.
When Shaelyn was born, I sensed that she didn’t really like to be swaddled because she would always wrangle her arms loose or kick through the bottom. I watched my fair share of swaddling videos as a new over googling mother (haha), so I felt I had the swaddle part down pat, just that my baby didn’t like it. But after having Siena, I actually continued to swaddle her even when she seemed uninterested because it did help even though she would fight it at times. If they weren’t swaddled, they both wanted to be held to sleep which can become quit exhausting at night. So when the opportunity came about to try out the Zen Swaddle by Nested Bean, I was extremely excited!
I actually hadn’t even heard about this swaddle before I was contacted, so when I learned about the idea behind what makes it so special I was completely intrigued. The Zen Swaddle works by mimicking a mothers touch with lightly weighted pads that are placed on baby’s chest and sides. The velcro is strong and holds their arms in place just right, and it’s easier to use than traditional swaddle blankets. You will have to make sure you are placing the weighted parts correctly on your baby which can be tricky for tiny newborns, but it’s super easy to learn.
The Zen swaddle is claimed to improve sleep in babies who have a difficult time falling asleep themselves or who awake often during the night. Granted at first I considered, this sounds too good to be true, and what works for some little ones, might not work for others. But, after giving it a go, the first night we put it on Siena, she slept an extra hour from what she normally did (which was between 3-4 hours) and the second night she slept an additional two hours! So, yes…this swaddle worked for us and I couldn’t be happier to suggest it to those who may be interested. I only wish I had known about this swaddle when Shae was a newborn!
