Labor Story:

On Saturday (April 14th), our community had an event for kids that was kind of like a KIDCHELLA that included food trucks, bounce houses, concerts, face painting and so forth for the families who live in our home community. I was already feeling like the baby was super low and heavy and hadn’t been walking around much the days prior because it was starting to hurt to do so, but I really wanted to get the girls outta the house and we needed to snap some photos for a collab with the Children’s Place so we got ourselves dolled up and went! I’m convinced that got things going as it was a struggle to walk around without stopping to rest but the girls were having so much fun.

That night I didn’t really feel to many contractions, just the usual few here and there. I was able to watch a movie, work on the computer and get some things done around the house. My bags were packed and ready to go so I wasn’t to worried about that.

At around 1:30AM I woke up to a big contraction. After it subsided, I layed there for a bit and just decided to time the next one just in case it was going to be time. They were about four and five minutes apart but not enough to cause me extreme pain. So I tried to dose off again and would sleep a bit, wake up to another, sleep again and wake up again…this repeated till about 5 am when I was like ok….today’s the day! Got up, showered hoping to relieve some pain as it had started to increase, attempted a bit of makeup and then woke Freddy up saying, “it’s time to go, NOW!” He loaded the car and I we kissed the girls goodbye (his sisters were staying the weekend with us so thank goodness they were here to watch them!)

Right before leaving the house I noticed I was leaking water. With the girls’ my water burst in the hospital after the epidural and everything but this time I had somehow gotten a slow leak instead.

We made it to the hospital just before 6am, checked in and they examined me to see if I was truly in labor. Within a few minutes they had me in a delivery room with an IV as I was dilated to a five and they had confirmed that my water had a slow leak.

I did receive an epidural but was taken aback when it didn’t work on my left side. After telling the nurse she had the anesthesiologist come back and administer more but this time I became numb up to my chest which resulted in a flow blown PANIC attack and the feeling that I was “high on drugs.” I kept saying “I shouldn’t have done it I should have just gone through the pain” but it was to late and for the next hour it took Freddy and his mother all they could do to console me which had me absolutely embarrassed and upset all the more. But by about 10AM it was time to push and I think that helped me “come down” from whatever had gone on with the extra dose. I pushed a few times before they panicked a bit because the baby’s heartbeat kept dipping. So they made me lay on my side and told me to “push hard now!” so we wouldn’t have to do a C-section. A few more quick pushes and out she came!

They placed baby girl on my chest, eyes wide opened and she let out a soft cry while she tried to catch her breath. They picked her up in front of me and suctioned out her mouth and she looked RIGHT AT me. I began to sob and IMMEDIATLY was in love with everything about her, this journey, the gift of life…everything…it just flooded through me and that moment is something I will never forget with her <3

She layed on my chest for a good hour and I checked out her beautiful hands, feet, nose, eyes, ears….lol…all of her. We immediately noted that she didn’t really look like Shaelyn or Siena and had her own unique look about her. I’ve heard countless times that she looks “just like me” when I was a baby which makes my heart all the happier since both the girls looked so much like Freddy, LOL.

We had several visitors over the next few hours, and over the next few days we received countless meals, house calls, and congratulations. Our family and friends truly made us feel so loved and we are so grateful.

Welcome Shyla Sagebaby girl, newborn birth story

Her Name:

We had a really hard time coming up with the perfect name this time. And to be honest it came to us in a very unexpected way.

About a year ago I would get my eyelashes done by a girl named Shyla and I always thought it was just an absolutely beautiful name. So unique and peaceful sounding. Not thinking anything of it until one of my cousins came over a few months before Shyla was due they asked what our potential names were.

We really wanted to stick with some “S” names like the girls’ and had come up with: Summer, Sage, Savannah, and even deliberated the name Sedona (which soo many people gladly opinionated they hated, lol). Which reminds me to REMIND you…name your baby what YOU want, not what other people do.

Ok, sooo we were really leaning towards Sage to be her name but like I’ve mentioned in other blogs we always waited till our babies were born before we named them to see them. So, once we saw her we just could not decide. Sage didn’t seem like an immediate fit but it was already in our head! Plus I feel like the name is really taken off at this moment as a unisex name and soo many people around us had been naming their baby Sage. That lead us to just take her home without a name and decide from there.

When I remembered the name Shyla and brought it up to Freddy we looked at her and thought YES it fits her perfectly and he agreed 🙂

We know the nicknames Shae and Shy are very similar, but they just fit them so well.
